Back in 2019, during the week of my birthday, I had my very first idea of creating my own business. It happened right after a big life decision: I wanted to become a mom.
That decision changed everything.
My mindset shifted completely, and with it, the way I would think, choose, and act in the years that followed. It felt like going from zero to a hundred overnight. I had never dreamed of that moment. I had never planned it. I had even said, for a long time, that I didn’t want to be a mom.
And then it happened. And when it did, it was a full yes.
When Questions Open New Worlds
With that decision came questions — so many of them.
What kind of mother was I going to be? Was I going to be like my own mom? Would I still have fun? Would this be the end of the life I knew? What would it mean for my relationship, so aligned at the core, yet so different on the surface? How would we parent together?
And then there were the identity questions. I’m Colombian. I speak English. I was learning German. Would I feel comfortable speaking Spanish with my children? Who would I become in this new role?
As those questions surfaced, something else happened.
I suddenly started seeing the silent heroes around me. Moms everywhere, doing their best, holding so much, caring deeply. Some struggling. Some shining. Most doing both at the same time.
A reality I had barely noticed before opened up right in front of me. From that moment on, I couldn’t unsee it.
Choosing Entrepreneurship Before Feeling Ready
It took me two more years to officially register as self-employed in Austria.
It was during the COVID pandemic. I was pregnant. And I was still waiting.
I waited because I wanted clarity about the future of the company I was working for — even though, deep down, I already knew it wouldn’t continue. I waited because I was scared. I didn’t know the practicalities. It felt impulsive, even though I had been thinking about it for a long time.
What finally pushed me forward was simple and powerful: freedom, fun, and purpose-driven economic independence.
Yes, fun is important for me. I need to enjoy what I do, otherwise I get bored. And I need to feel that what I do makes an impact in the world. Those values are sometimes not that easy to align, but it is possible.
In sum: I wanted to sustain myself doing what I love, in a way that aligned with the life I wanted to live, and with the people I wanted to serve.
A Quiet but Powerful Confirmation
With time I realized that the value I created needed a different confirmation than the one I thought was essential.
Deep inside me, I have always needed verbal confirmation that what I was doing was right. But that’s not the confirmation that matters in business. What matters is whether there is demand for your services — whether people are willing to pay for what you do.
That’s all. And it took me years to accept how simple it was.
Then I made a payment I had wanted to make for a long time: my student debt, finally released. And this time, it came entirely from my own work.
That moment mattered more than I expected.
After years of hesitation, questioning, and wondering, I now feel confident in my offer. I’m clear about how I want to work, the value I create, and — most importantly — the real transformation my clients experience.
Before, that feeling was blurry. Occasional.
Now, I see it in real life. I feel it. I trust it.
After many years, things are falling into place. Not perfectly, but truthfully. I feel clarity. And peace of mind. And joy in the way I work.
What Took Time to Understand
This didn’t come easily. And it didn’t come all at once.
I stumbled. I crashed. I felt embarrassed. I felt uncomfortable. I worried I was contradicting myself.
Yes, I always had clients. Yes, I always found ways to pay my bills.
But now it feels different. Now it feels like ownership. Control. Structure. Choice.
What didn’t work for me was constantly searching outside — for validation, confirmation, or certainty. I needed to validate my offer with my ideal clients, yes. But before that, I had to be deeply clear about what I truly wanted to offer, so the transformation would be real, aligned, and worthy of the value I bring.
That clarity only came with time, reflection, and lived experience.
Why I’m Writing This Blog
This realization changed the way I work. And it’s the reason I decided to write this blog.
I want to create a true connection — heart to heart. That means opening my own heart. Sharing my truths. Speaking honestly about business, motherhood, fear, growth, and becoming.
This space is part of that commitment.
I speak more about this in a video I recorded the day before writing this. At the time, I didn’t yet have the words or the space to express all of this fully.
If you’re currently struggling to define your offer or find clarity in your work, you’re not alone.
